Marcin Sompoliński

After graduating from a volin class at the Secondary Music School in Gdańsk, he began conductor studies at the Music Academy in Poznań in the class of prof. Renard Czajkowski and received his university diploma under the direction of prof. Witold Krzemieński. He participated in many master classes, among others: in Leipzig (H. Rilling), Stuttgart (J.E. Gardiner) and Brixen (J. Riffkin). Sompoliński was awarded with Poznań municipal grant for young artists (1993), as well as the Głos Wielkopolski's Order for Young Art (1994). During years 1987-1999 he led the Symphonic Orchestra of the State Secondary Music School in Poznań. For three years (1987-1990) he was the conductor of Wielkopolska Symphonic Orchestra.

Since 1993 he has been the leader of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Music Academy in Poznań. During years 1997-2002, he worked as a conductor for the Great Theatre in Poznań, directing, among others, W. A. Mozart's 'Magic Flute' at the festivals in Carcassonne and Xanten. He performed with many symphonic orchestras in the country and abroad, working with distinguished soloists (K. A. Kulka, J. Kotnowska, E. Chojnacka, W. Ochamn, M. Bilson) in prestigious concert halls (Beethovenhalle-Bonn, Festspielhaus w Salzburgu, Alte Oper we Frakfurcie). He took part in many radio and tv recordings. In 1998 he led a series of Arvo Pärta monographic concerts, which was described as the „culutral event of the year in Poznań” by the press („Gazeta Wyborcza” daily and”Życie”).

Among Sompoliński's most notable opera achievements is the polish premiere of Marcel Landowski's „Galina”. He also prepared the premiere spectacles of S. Moniuszka's „Halka” (2000) and G. Verdi's „Aida” (2001). In 2006 Sompoliński worked with the ensemble of Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz on the Austrian world premiere of the newly found W. A. Mozart's opera “Der Stein der Weisen” (Fetsspielhaus Salzburg).

Another of Marcin Sompoliński's achievements is a liturgical performance of “Missa pro defuncto Wolfgango Amadeo” (Mass in the Memory of Wolfgang Amadeus) on the 4th of May 2001 in the Franciscans' Church on the Castle Hill. This as well was proclaimed the “musical event of the year” in Poznań by the “Gazeta Wyborcza” daily. Sompoliński is also the originator and the organizer of the series of novel educational “Speaking Concerts”, which has gained great interest and appreciation of the public.

During years 2005-2008 he fulfilled the function of music director of the Great Theatre in Poznań, where he prepared the premieres of, among others, M. Yeston's „Phantom of the Opera” and F. Lehar's „Tsarevich”.

Since 2008 he has been a permanent conductor of the German orchestra Concerto Brandenburg, which specializes in performing classical music using historical instruments.
